Moore Arts: Millom
The Mischievous Players | Rural Edge Funk | Rural Edge Drummers | Rural Edge Actors
The Company is established to promote and advance involvement, participation and access to the performing arts and associated art forms, especially for young people, in the North West of England but primarily in Cumbria and in particular, Millom and it’s surrounding areas.
Jakki Moore is the founder and Artistic Director of the company and will continue to work with young people to build on accessing the arts for this area. The company aims to present, promote, organise, provide, manage, produce and participate in plays, performances, dramas, films, broadcasts, musical pieces, concerts, entertainments, festivals and exhibitions. We also aspire to promote, organise, provide, manage and produce workshops, classes, events and other activities that provide the opportunity for the involvement of young people and disadvantaged groups in artistic activities.
Within Moore Arts: Millom there are other companies developing. For three years, Jakki has run a youth theatre for 11-16yr olds, this is growing from strength to strength and has now developed into a company of performers called, “Rural Edge Actors”. This company will now be split into two groups of age ranges. We also have the new Drama club, “The Mischievous Players”, which is a company of junior age primary school children formed from all the primary schools in Millom and the surrounding areas.
Jakki is also working with a group of 16-25yr old, single mums on a fly on the wall documentary idea about their lives. This is funded by the Prince’s Trust’s Big Boost project.
We now have Rural Edge Funk and Rural Edge Beats! Our dance groups and drumming group that now meet every Monday and Thursday respectively. Take a look at the links for these companies.
Current partners for the company are, Shoreline Films, we have recently shot “The Missing” a Media Box funded Film project entitled, with the Rural Edge Actors This 13-19yr old company has devised, writen and shot this short film working with a professional crew and is now in post production. The grand screening will be sometime in the spring and then the film will be uploaded onto the website. In the meantime we do have photographs of the process on our gallery pages.
The younger company members have been working with Barry Vernon of Firehouse Studios to write and record their own song and make a pop video. This is about to be edited and we hope to put the video and song on the website very soon!
